02

Why a freelancer for Google Ads.

In Google Ads, what matters is the person who works in the account every week. In many setups I saw during six years at agencies, a senior was present at the kickoff, and the day-to-day work was then done by someone with little experience. That is no criticism of the people, it follows from how an agency is structured.

With me there is no such handover. The person who does the audit rebuilds the account and manages it afterwards. You talk to the person who knows the bids, the feed and the search terms. What speaks for and against this is set out honestly on the page Agency or Freelancer.

03

What I take on in your account.

03.1

Shopping and Performance Max

Clear roles for Standard Shopping, PMax and Search, so it stays visible which product sells where. Decisions per product group rather than across the board. More on Google Shopping Freelancer.

03.2

Management by contribution margin

Bids and budgets follow what is left after cost of goods, shipping, returns and ad spend, not just revenue. How this works is explained under Google Ads by Contribution Margin.

03.3

Feed and Merchant Center

Titles, attributes, exclusions and labels set up so that Google assigns your products correctly. Plus help with disapprovals and suspensions in Merchant Center.

03.4

Tracking and measurement

Conversion values that fit the shop, Consent Mode and, where needed, server-side tracking. Without reliable data, bidding learns from the wrong reality.

03.5

Ongoing management

Search terms, product data, budgets and bid targets every week. One report a month: what happened, why, and what comes next.

04

Who this suits. And who it does not.

A good fit

  • Google Ads is a major revenue channel for your shop, and you want to know whether it pays off after all costs.
  • Shopping and Performance Max are running, but nobody can explain what is happening in them.
  • You want one person who knows your account, rather than changing contacts.
  • You sell into several DACH countries, for example from Germany into Switzerland, with CHF, customs duty and separate pricing logic.

Probably not a fit

  • You are looking for one partner for all channels, including TikTok, SEO and creatives. I do not do that.
  • You need a stand-in who takes over immediately during holidays or illness. An agency with a team can cover that better.
  • Your ad budget is so small that an external fee eats up the additional contribution margin. How to calculate this beforehand is covered in the article Choosing the right Google Ads management for an online shop.

Frequently asked questions.

What does a Google Ads freelancer do?

They plan, build and manage Google Ads campaigns as a self-employed individual rather than as an agency. With me that means: audit, restructuring of the account, weekly work on bids, budgets, search terms and feed, plus a monthly report. I only work for online shops.

What does a Google Ads freelancer cost with you?

For projects, my day rate of €1,200 net applies. For ongoing management, I quote a fixed monthly amount after the audit, depending on the account and the effort involved. There are no fixed packages. How to compare offers is covered in What Google Ads management costs.

Do you work independently or at an agency?

As a freelancer under my own name. Contract, invoice and the work on the account all go directly through me, not through an agency. I also hold the Google Partner status under my own name.

Do you also work with shops in Austria and Switzerland?

Yes. My published freelance cases are Swiss shops. I know CHF feeds, Merchant Center for Switzerland and multilingual campaigns. Details on Google Ads Freelancer Switzerland.

Does the account stay mine?

Yes. Everything runs in your own Google Ads account. You can see every change in the change history, and you keep access even if we end the collaboration.

How quickly do you see results?

Errors in tracking or the feed often show an effect within the first weeks. Restructuring usually takes several weeks, because of the learning phase of the bid strategies, before it can be assessed reliably. I assess it only after that, not after a few days.
